Saturn, Singing My Heart Out

Saturn 59

“Lightly fold Prince with Depeche Mode, add a couple of dashes of Bowie and sprinkle around the edges with gay hip-hop and a bit of sass!”

Saturn is an award-winning, out and proud, music artist who has been writing, producing, and performing his own original style of alternative urban-pop since 2003. It started when Saturn was five. If you awoke early enough on a Sunday morning you’d catch him on the front porch, his tiny feet buried in his grandmother’s high heels, her Sunday hat falling lopsided on his head, belting out his favorite gospel hymns at the top of his lungs. Fast forward twenty years. He’s lost the heels and the hat, but he’s still singing his heart out; though maybe not quite like Mahalia Jackson.

2014 saw the release of Saturn’s 6th album, “Face of America,” a politically charged, sassy, sexy, and funky take on the black gay perspective of life in the USA. It’s topical and relevant while being fun at the same time. The video for the lead single, “Top of the World,” from Saturn’s 5th album, “Dance and Make Love,” won the RightOutTV Award for Best Electronic/Dance/HipHop/R&B Video of the Year and was named one of the Top Ten Videos of 2013 by the Examiner. The second video release from the album “Don’t Come In” also made the Examiner’s year end list of 30 Best Songs You Haven’t Heard.

A performance highlight for Saturn was opening for RuPaul at Baltimore Gay Pride. In addition to performing at a number of Gay Pride events across the country, Saturn has performed at nightclubs, showcases, and other events on both coasts. Saturn has gained rotation on an ever-growing list of stations and his song “Saint” was voted by listeners as one of the top OUT songs of 2005 on Sirius OutQ. Along with being featured prominently on the internationally syndicated radio show, “This Way Out,” WCH Radio called Saturn one of its top 25 independent artists
