Jordan Reynolds, J Rey, was born in St. Louis and raised in Columbia, Missouri. At an early age he showed an interest in music listening to Classic Rock bands like Rush, Van Halen, and Pink Floyd with his family. He had always dreamed of making music of his own, but it wasn’t until he was in kindergarten that he discovered what genre of music he wanted to become a part of. While visiting his aunt she asked if he wanted to listen to something different. Open to broadening his musical horizons he was exposed to a whole new world of music, Hip Hop.

The first Hip Hop song he had ever heard was “Country Grammar” by Nelly and he became captivated with this new kind of music. He was constantly listening to artists like 2Pac, NWA, Eminem, Biggie Smalls, and Snoop Dogg often having to hide it from his parents and listen in secret. At the age of 16 he started creating his own Rap verses and writing his own songs. He adopted the stage name J Rey and began the journey to fulfill his dream of becoming a Hip Hop songwriter and performer.

His work is inspired by Shady Records’ Drake, Kendrick, and Tech N9ne. J Rey currently resides in Auburn, Alabama where he balances attending school at Auburn University and continuing to produce music. He hopes to one day share his music with the world and be a part of this distinguished and powerful industry that he has come to love.
