Day Won, For The Book Productions

Day Won’s origins begin with Chay, R.J. Sorenson, who began rapping at the age of 17 as a way to express himself when dealing with his personal adversities. What became a hobby transformed into a passion and love for Rap and Hip Hop with inspiration grown from listening to Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Krayzie Bone, 2Pac, Rakim, KRS-One, Notorious B.I.G., and many others from the 90’s era. Now 24, he’s taken the time to better craft his style and flow with respect to those that share the same goal. He has created and wrote 15 mixtapes (volumes) with Vol. 16 set to be released on Soundcloud this upcoming fall. His debut performance was in 2014 at Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach.

Hailing from Inglewood, illyEl bicsby, Elgan Richardson Jr., met Chay at a chance encounter in Del Amo Mall in Torrance. illyEl is a R&B singer known for his soulful voice and pure melodies. He is the son of Elgan Richardson Sr., a former backup singer for Luther Vandross and Patty LaBelle as well as clothing stylist for performers such as Ready for the World and New Edition. At the age of 5 he began singing and debuted live at the Airliner Bar in Los Angeles. After his performance he took the time to further improve on his vocals until performing with Chay at Saint Rocke in January 2015. illyEl has been featured on Vol. 15 and will be featured in Vol. 16.

Assisting as a music/business manager for both Chay and illyEl, Josh Melendez, Sway, is a business major and the person who introduced both artists to each other. Together they founded For The Book Productions, an independent label with future aspirations of becoming a powerhouse producer of great music, quality videos, and overall representation of positive spirituality. The pair of artists currently perform under the moniker Day Won throughout Los Angeles and seek to become known worldwide as the faces of For The Book Productions.
