David Cast, My Alter Ego

“You can’t teach hunger, you gotta be able to motivate yourself to be the greatest.”

Coming on the scene with a throwback style that betrayed his years, Dallas-based rapper David Cast had just turned 16 when he spent 2011 making his name through the freestyle/cipher/battle circuit of his hometown. Born David Castaneda, Cast taught himself to play piano and guitar by the age of 10. Then, after learning to compose songs in a variety of musical genres, he began studying the art of rhyme. Influenced by the styles of artists such as Nas, Rolling Stones, Snoop Dogg, and Lil Wayne, Cast soon developed a reputation for delivering jaw-dropping freestyles in Dallas.

His debut mixtape, “My Alter Ego,” became his breakthrough when it was released in January of 2014 earning plenty of attention and landing Cast a recording contract with 67 South Recordings. 67 South Recordings re-released his debut EP as well as the follow up mixtape, “Strange Kid Movement,” in the summer of 2014. The year 2014 showcased Cast’s hit making potential as his debut 67 South Recordings EP “My Alter Ego” performed very well online with no radio airplay.

As David Cast’s Star power grows he stays in the studio or on the stage honing his skills to be a force to be reckoned with.
