Apple’s big event went down Tuesday morning (Sept. 9) in Cupertino, Calif., and as expected, the tech giant introduced the much expected next generation iPhone, the iPhone 6. The standard iPhone 6 has grown to sport a  4.7 inch diagonal screen, while the new iPhone Plus comes in at 5.5 inches, giving it not only a much larger screen but also a resolution of 1920 by 1080 with 401 pixels per inch, full 1080p HD. Both feature a seamless design with ion-strengthened cover glass curves around the sides to meet an anodized aluminum enclosure, as well as a new Retina HD display. It’s also the thinnest iPhone to date.

The new iPhone is of course powered by the Apple-designed A8 chip, which is said to be 84 times faster than the original iPhone and processor performance is 50 times faster than the original iPhone. Also included is an improved camera and NFC Technology. On the software side of things, the new iOS 8 (available Sept. 17.), will feature the option to add voice, video, and location to any message; a predictive keyboard that learns your conversation style; and a new Health app gives you a detailed look at your health and fitness data.

The iPhone 6 starts at $199 with a two-year contract, while the iPhone 6 Plus starts at $299 with a two-year contract. Both will come in Gold, Silver, and Space Gray color schemes. They release Sept. 19th in select countries with pre-orders starting Friday (Sept. 12).

The tech giant also introduced the long-rumored wearable device dubbed “Apple Watch” . CEO Tim Cook calls the device “the most personal device we’ve ever created,” merging the element of a health and fitness companion with customizable timepiece.
The Apple Watch’s key development is the Digital Crown, utilizing a fact-simile of the crown on a regular watch as an interface to scroll, zoom, and navigate without covering the display, one of the challenges of a touch screen watch. It also allows for content to be magnified, or the ability to scroll through lists and messages, and make selections without obstructing the screen.

The Apple Watch requires either an iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, 6, or 6 Plus to work, and will be available in three versions, Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition, early next year with a starting price of $349 USD. Visit for more details.
