Str8jakkett, Indigenous Series

Stuart Tidwell, Str8jakkett, heard his first hip-hop record on the radio in 1980 and he was hooked. In 1985, at the age of fifteen, he began creating a name for himself through beat box battling on the street. In 1986, after taking a trip with his mother to Long Beach, CA , his cousin introduced him to deejaying. That very next year, in his senior year of high school, he started a DJ group called the 2 Def Crew. He hosted parties as a DJ until about 1991 and then made the transition into the world of the emcee.

Str8jakkett began developing his lyrical talents in 1989 but wasn’t quite ready to step out as an MC. Once ready, he helped assemble the group DVS Mindz. DVS starting making some noise and established connections that helped propel them into opening acts for major artists at the time. DVS performed at multiple venues from South Beach to Oakland, CA.

After the group split up in 2003, Str8jakkett began his solo career collaborating on songs with Baby Bam of the Jungle Brothers, Sadat X of Brand Nubian, Rockness Monsta of Heltah Skeltah, and Thirstin Howl the 3rd. Str8jakkett can also be heard on the DVD movies The Wizard of Gore, Street Fury, The Envy Edition, and Girlz Play. Str8jakkett has since released Napom (2003), Mood Swings (2007), Monster Mash Mixtape (2012), The Survivalist EP (2012), The Game LP (2013), and is currently working on a project of several EP’s in the Indigenous Series (2015) including Volume 1 which is out now!
