Neville Lloyd, Roots Rhythm & Blues

Neville Lloyd is a 29 year old singer, songwriter, and producer from the southwest England, Swindon Wiltshire, who describes his music as roots rhythm & blues. The significance of his moniker for his music is that roots is the foundation of Caribbean, Jamaica, and Reggae. Rhythm comes from the genres of r&b, hip hop, funk, and soul. Blues is the feeling and emotion. What made Lloyd want to become a musician was the music he grew up with, music from artists like Jodeci and Mary J. Blige. Add to that music from the late 80s to 90s and the current state of music.

Lloyd feels there’s a lack of originality and soul in music today. His objective is to create a balance between the mainstream and the underground. The underground is what he calls the real music, the music you don’t hear on the mainstream radio, the music that we used to hear and see growing up in the 80s and 90s, music of substance. We all have a purpose or a calling in life, and to reestablish that r&b feel is solely his.

Lloyd has been singing for about 6 years and within that time he’s been writing and producing his own material. He’s produced two mixtapes, Nevolution and Nevelation, which you can find on iTunes and Datpiff. He’s currently working on an EP titled Roots Rhythm & Blues and should be out in the next couple of months. He’s excited about this project because he’s finally found his own sound and he’s running with it.
