D-lock, Lil Chiraq


D-lock is an independent artist coming out of Rockford, IL, about 90 miles west of Chicago. With his unique style and vivid lyricism, he depicts narratives of life in his city. D-lock born Darian Lockhart, started rapping at the age of 15 with his brother and neighborhood friends. Shortly after he received a short lived record deal with a local record label. Although it didn’t work out, D-lock continued to hone his skills and incorporated the various influences from having lived in numerous cities such as Grand Rapids, MI, Nashville, TN, and Milwaukee, WI.

He joined the diverse rap group S.F.E. (Smoovefellaz Entertainment) in 2010. The group made up of high school friends do everything from rap, sing, to playing instruments, and have been consistently putting out music since 2007. 2 solo and 5 group mixtapes later and D-lock has a plethora of new music just dropping and set to be released soon. “Popular Demand” is a group mixtape which dropped February 2015 and can be heard on YouTube and band camp.

He also has a collaborative mixtape, “She Hate Me,” with fellow S.F.E. member Illi Elz set to be released later in 2015. The tape was inspired by the Spike Lee film with the shared title and features songs about love, sex, relationships, and the like. He is currently working on his solo project, “Lil Chiraq,” which will be featured on the straight to YouTube series Lil Chiraq which depicts life through his eyes on the streets of Rockford, IL.
