The Los Angeles Made Exclusive: CAVICALIFORNIA & PRNSLYATOMS Exclusive Q&A

Check out the interview with CAVICALIFORNIA & PRNSLYATOMS exclusively on RB Lifestyle Magazine.

RBL: What is the meaning of your name? How did you get it and what is the significance?
CAVICALIFORNIA: CAVICALIFORNIA is an experience. I used to do shows under the stage name E.Y. before I ever had a record out. The name “Cavi California” randomly came about in conversation with PRNSLYATOMS and it sounded like money to me. A couple days passed on and I eventually stylized it as CAVICALIFORNIA and it’s been on ever since.

PRNSLYATOMS: Which one? Princely is the translation of my middle name. I added the “atoms” later on to make it a full name. I produce and make my more expansive stuff under PRNSLYATOMS. It feels less confining. Skinny. Punk. Princely is all attitude. A ball of hate rolling downhill. I rarely say the harshest things I can think of, I just don’t have the voice for it. As a producer and engineer, I must accept reality.

Can you tell us about the music scene in you area? How is it like? How are the other artists?
CAVICALIFORNIA: The moment fools find out you got the studio poppin’ they’re at your house. Everybody just likes turning up and wearing the shoes, but they aren’t really into putting all the work. Don’t step in my fuckin booth if this is a hobby to you.

PRNSLYATOMS: I grew up around a lot of local talent out here. Tyler, the Creator, and Casey Veggies are from out here. Nowadays it’s a bunch of fan boys stuck indoors. I bet fools couldn’t sellout their bedroom. L.A.M.E. is the only crew pushing boundaries nowadays.

How did your friends and family first think about your career?
CAVICALIFORNIA: Their opinion doesn’t matter, I know my music is dope. First and foremost, I put my faith in god.

PRNSLYATOMS: Their opinions don’t pay my rent.

What are some of your favorite brands out right now?
CAVICALIFORNIA: I don’t really like rocking nothing but my own clothes. Not much has changed since we’ve partnered up with Rude Boy I thought we’d be Rude Boy’d up by now (laughs).

PRNSLYATOMS: Never been a brand fan boy.

Who are your top five favorite musicians right now?
CAVICALIFORNIA: Top 5 artists on my list would have to be Spitta, Kanye West, Dom Kennedy, Kendrick Lamar, and Roy Ayers because I know he’s still touring the globe. Shout outs to Roy Ayers.

PRNSLYATOMS: If it’s not L.A.M.E. it’s not worth bumping.

What keeps you going in this tough music economy? How has it changed you overall?
CAVICALIFORNIA: Faith in the skills and abilities that God blessed me with for my sustenance.

PRNSLYATOMS: Seeing and hearing progress.

What are some of your focuses outside of music? Do you have family or other businesses around?
CAVICALIFORNIA: First of all, I like to stay ahead of the game. Aside from making music I like gun shows, eating Tommy’s, and scheming for classics at the auction. Sometimes I like walk to the store just to see what’s poppin’ on the stroll. I’m also a marijuana connoisseur and I also like sex. Shout outs to Tinder for helping me out on my bucket list.

PRNSLYATOMS: Watching Porn and hollering at the hookers on Imperial Hwy which is down the street from my house. From Hawthorne Blvd to Crenshaw, Imperial Highway stays active.

What separates you from the next artist in the business?
CAVICALIFORNIA: I say bold shit in the most sophisticated manner plus PRNSLYATOMS is one of the greatest producers. Matter fact, name one rapper that sounds like me.

PRNSLYATOMS: We’re The Los Angeles Made Exclusive (The L.A.M.E.) that alone separates us from everyone else. Another thing that separates us, we’re not from Compton. We’re from the South Bay of Los Angeles. We see things a bit differently. I just want drugs and money and fame. Also a nympho girlfriend would be nice. I have a high sex drive. Sorry, but respect never bought me groceries.

What advice can you give to the other small artists that are just starting out?
CAVICALIFORNIA: Two words discipline and professionalism. Other than that invest in yourself and always find better and more sophisticated ways to capitalize off your product.

Are there thoughts of signing to a major label or distributor yet?
CAVICALIFORNIA: A wise man once told me, “It’s not about the quantity you make, it’s about the quality of life.”

PRNSLYATOMS: Of course. I’m competitive. The idea of getting 3x my last contract because I earned it is genius. If I got to take pictures with some snot nose kid to get a yacht, so be it.

What do you think the future of music industry will look like?
CAVICALIFORNIA: Only those who speak the truth will survive or be assassinated.

PRNSLYATOMS: I’m the voice of a generation. My ideas and influence will corrupt the industry for years to come. If I poison the youth as a byproduct of my genius, it was meant to be.

Where can we find you and connect with you? Can you tell us your social media links etc?
