BLAS, An Entrepreneurial Spirit

As the great-grandson of San Diego Jazz legend Walter “Rosetta” Fuller and son of a navy vet single mother, Brian Smith has taken on the stage name of BLAS that stands for Benevolence Live Amongst Sin; it characterizes the inner struggle that we all have with our ego. Wanting to stay true to the legacy set in motion by his preceding generations, he stands for truth and speaks about what he sees and experiences. Music is the chosen medium to convey his message not only because of his roots, but for his studies of trombone in school and his taking to all genres of music. He’s been influenced by Run DMC, Rakim Allah, Wu-Tang, King Tee, DOC, and Too Short.

BLAS has the entrepreneurial spirit and is planning to use music as the launch pad for his subsequent endeavors that include a series of graphic novels and novellas dubbed the Diamond Legacy Series, a line of unisex beauty and relaxation products named Aphrodite, and a potential feature film on Walter Fuller’s life. In terms of his initial conquest, music, the tunes he will be creating will be a reflection on current social order and reintroduce a sound that is reminiscent of 80s/90s Hip Hop. His experience in music includes a stint with Los Angeles Hip Hop collective the Haiti Boys who promoted their own artists and worked alongside valuable musicians such as Qmillion and Massolas Fanor.

BLAS is direct product of the Military Industrial Complex being born on Andrews Air Force Base and spending a brief moment in the Ari Force after high school. He has history and deep roots in San Diego and considers it his home base.
