Apple Announces New iPad At Lower Cost

Apple announced this week that a less expensive iPad will start at $329. The new 9.7-inch model is also less powerful. It’s powered by Apple’s A9 processor instead of the Pro’s more powerful A9X chipset. It’s also not compatible with popular accessories like the Apple Pencil or SmartKeyboard.

While the new iPad’s screen has the same 2,048 x 1,536 resolution as the Pro, it’s not fully laminated and doesn’t feature the anti-reflective coating used on other iPads. The sharper camera and 4K video capabilities are gone and instead offers a 8MP camera and 1080p video recording.

For the casual user this iPad should be just fine, as the Pro is geared more toward creative professionals for photo and film editing.
